Seven ships and barges stuck under Vinh Phu bridge have been cleared.

On the morning of September 10, at the foot of Vinh Phu bridge across the Lo River connecting Song Lo district ( Vinh Phuc province) and Viet Tri city (Phu Tho province), 7 ships and barges broke their anchors due to strong currents, causing the ships to drift towards Vinh Phu bridge and become stuck under the bridge.

Seven ships and barges stuck under Vinh Phu bridge have been cleared.

Immediately after receiving the news, Comrade Bui Minh Chau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Comrade Bui Van Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, in coordination with the leaders of Vinh Phuc province, directed the functional forces of the two provinces and Military Region 2 to deploy forces and vehicles to the scene, coordinate with the functional agencies to participate in rescue and traffic regulation; at the same time, prepare a plan to be ready to handle situations of ship fires, explosions and incidents if related to Vinh Phu bridge and the ships and barges that are stuck.

At 2:20 p.m. the same day, the strong river current pushed and sank the largest covered ship that was stuck against the bridge wall, and at the same time freed 4 barges that were stuck nearby. Immediately, tugboats were deployed around Vinh Phu bridge to approach and tow the 4 barges that were drifting downstream. The authorities deployed people and vehicles to cut the anchor and tow the remaining two barges to a safe anchorage area.

Leaders of the two provinces also agreed to let Vinh Phuc province authorities re-inspect the bridge before proposing a plan to reopen traffic.
