According to ABC News, Rafi Bahalul, a man in Egypt was swimming in the sea in the morning when he saw a strange rock. Rafi Bahalul said: "I saw it when I just started swimming a few meters. I thought it looked like a strange-shaped target, so I dived down and picked it up."

Jacob Sharvit, head of the Israeli antiquities agency, later told ABC News that the strange stele was actually an Egyptian stone anchor, dating back 3,400 years.

According to archaeologists, this anchor is actually a small part of a large, elaborately decorated relief. After the relief was broken for some reason, a piece of it was punched out and used as an anchor.

It is possible that the sailors lost the anchor, or the boat using it sank off the Mediterranean and it drifted to this shore.

Ancient Egyptian characters used some 5,000 years ago are also engraved on this anchor. Some of the phrases on the Egyptian anchor have been translated as: “The tablet in the hand of Seshat (the ancient Egyptian goddess of creation), “love, home and books”.
