On July 29, information from the leader of Can Tho Central General Hospital said that neurosurgeons had just performed emergency surgery on a rare case, a woman was hit in the head by a stray bullet while gardening.
The patient is Ms. DTKT (40 years old, living in Can Tho City), was brought to the emergency room by her family with a wound in the occipital area about 1cm long, the bleeding had stopped and she had a headache.
According to her family, on the afternoon of July 28, while she was gardening at home, a hard, round object suddenly flew towards her and hit her in the head, causing heavy bleeding. Her family immediately took her to Can Tho Central General Hospital.
Upon admission, the doctors consulted and decided to perform surgery to remove the foreign object and treat the injury. Enlarging the incision about 3cm in the head area, the doctor removed a bullet-shaped metal foreign object, measuring 0.5 x 0.3cm.
Fortunately, the bullet only penetrated the skin, lightly touching the occipital bone, without causing serious damage to the brain and surrounding structures.

According to the family, it is possible that this was a stray bullet from a bird gun or a homemade gun that hit Ms. T. in the head. Because she is a gardener and housewife in the family, she has no conflicts or disagreements with anyone, including relatives and neighbors.
Currently the patient is awake, responsive, the surgical wound is dry, and no neurological symptoms have been recorded.
Dr. Chuong Chan Phuoc - Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, Can Tho Central General Hospital - said that usually, gunshot wounds are a serious form of trauma, occurring when the bullet penetrates the body, causing damage to soft tissue, internal organs or bones. The severity of the wound depends on many factors such as the type of gun, type of bullet, velocity, location of the bullet and trajectory of movement in the body.
This victim's case is quite rare and unusual, the bullet had almost reached the end of its trajectory so the force penetrating the head was significantly reduced. Thanks to that, it did not cause damage to the brain and surrounding organs. However, if not given first aid and surgery in time, it would be very dangerous.
