According to TRT World TV channel, this year's Summit is the first G20 event to include the African Union (AU) as an official member.

This is seen as a historic milestone in strengthening the voice of the Southern Hemisphere countries as well as the G20's recognition of Africa's importance in global governance.

The AU is seeking to shape discussions on key global issues, including debt, climate finance, inequality and international taxation. The alliance aims to advocate for fairer and more inclusive global tax systems, a just energy transition and affordable climate finance solutions.

The conference has the theme: "Building a fair world and a sustainable planet", with the main priorities set by the host country including fighting poverty, inequality, promoting sustainable development and promoting reforms in global governance.

Security is currently being heightened in Rio de Janeiro, as the G20 summit is attended by leaders from the world's largest economies, including US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and leaders from Australia, the UK, France, Germany, India and Japan...

On November 17, when arriving in Rio de Janeiro to attend the G20 Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to cooperate with all parties for an equal and orderly multipolar world, as well as a globalized economy that is inclusive and benefits the whole world.

Expressing hope that the G20 will play a greater role as an important platform for international economic cooperation, the Chinese president pledged that Beijing will actively support the "Global Alliance Against Poverty" initiative proposed by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

On the host side, Brazil's government has expressed concern that some G20 members are opposing issues agreed at the ministerial meeting on climate change and taxes on the super-rich.

However, according to Brazilian Environment Minister Marina Silva, despite the opposition, the South American country's government is ready to "work until the last minute" to seek consensus among G20 countries.

In ministerial meetings ahead of the G20 summit, member economies reached consensus on expanding financial flows to tackle the climate crisis, including strengthening the role of multilateral development banks.

Countries have pledged to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030 and promote ecological transition through sustainable economic instruments such as the bioeconomy and responsible use of natural resources.
