On the stage of the Xiaoshan Linpu Gymnasium in Hangzhou city, China, the 30-year-old Vietnamese boxer won 2-1 against his Thai opponent Nutchaya Sugun in the bronze medal match in the women's 48kg category.

At the 19th ASIAD, jujitsu competitions will take place from October 5-7 with categories of 48kg, 52kg, 57kg, 63kg (women) and 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg (men).

Jujitsu was first introduced into the competition system at ASIAD in 2018 and at this congress, the Vietnamese jujitsu team won a bronze medal from martial artist Duong Thi Thanh Minh in the women's 49kg newaza weight class.

The precious bronze medal 5 years ago is a great motivation and also a milestone for Vietnamese martial artists to strive to overcome at this year's ASIAD.

In addition to Phung Thi Hue, the key faces of Vietnamese jujitsu at ASIAD 19 also include Dang Thi Huyen, Le Thi Thuong, Nguyen Thi Minh Vuong, Hoang Thi Nhat Que and Can Van Thang.

According to coach Bui Dinh Tien, at ASIAD 19, Vietnamese players will face strong opponents such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kazakhstan, Mongolia and the Philippines.

The UAE team ranked first in the jujitsu medal tally at the 2018 Asian Games and could continue to dominate this year's tournament.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is also a jujitsu powerhouse in Central Asia. In addition, in Southeast Asia, the Philippines is the country with the most jujitsu black belts.
