A strong fleet is the strength of a nation.

From the above affirmation, delegate Luu Ba Mac recommended that the Government should have solutions to protect the legitimate rights of domestic airlines against the unhealthy behavior of foreign companies leasing and purchasing aircraft.

The above issue was raised by delegate Luu Ba Mac at the National Assembly forum after the press reported on the shortage of aircraft in Vietnam and around the world , leading to airlines lacking aircraft to operate, while there are aircraft "shelved" at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, causing waste. The reason is that aircraft leasing companies unilaterally terminated contracts with Vietnamese airlines and sold these aircraft to debt collection organizations, leading to legal disputes that prevented the aircraft from being put into operation.

According to Mr. Luu Ba Mac, by the end of March 2024, the number of commercial aircraft of Vietnamese airlines was about 170, a decrease of more than 40 aircraft, equivalent to a decrease of about 20%, compared to the same period in 2023.

In addition, some domestic enterprises have restructured, causing many domestic flights to be cut or reduced in frequency. At the same time, fuel prices have also increased, leading to increased airfares, affecting domestic tourism development and people's travel needs.

National Assembly delegates recommended that the Government consider and find solutions to reduce domestic airfares. This would help reduce travel costs for people; at the same time, attract domestic and international tourists, stimulate domestic tourism activities and services, and increase competitiveness compared to foreign tours.

Aviation industry copes with aircraft shortage "crisis"

Specifically, Mr. Luu Ba Mac proposed that there should be policies to support domestic airlines, through exemption and reduction of related taxes and fees, and price reductions in aviation services; it is necessary to increase the number of aircraft, open more routes; put into operation a number of aircraft that are being abandoned, causing waste as many articles have mentioned; it is necessary to increase the management and operational capacity at airports; it is necessary to have solutions to encourage businesses to research and apply alternative fuels or energies to protect the environment.
