ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue 2023 promotes human rights in the region

The ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue 2023 is an initiative of Indonesia supported by ASEAN member countries.

Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah emphasized that in a press release issued on May 3. Accordingly, the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue 2023 is considered an open and transparent dialogue forum on human rights issues in the region.

Mr. Teuku Faizasyah said that this initiative is expected to contribute to creating a fair working environment for migrant workers, protecting victims from extremism, eliminating human trafficking as well as violence against women and children.

Indonesian Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and Chair of the AICHR for 2023, Yuyun Wahyuningrum, while chairing the 36th AICHR Conference (February 27-March 3), emphasized that Indonesia's initiatives through consultations, workshops and seminars will encompass the interests of all ASEAN member states in promoting human rights in the region.

Within the framework of the above Conference, for the first time, AICHR organized a country study visit. Representatives of ASEAN member countries visited Bogor City and Mulyaharja Agro-Tourism Village to witness first-hand the success of regional governments in promoting, advancing and protecting human rights.

The first ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue was held in 2013, initiated by Indonesia. In 2022, Cambodia and Indonesia will co-chair the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue. The parties will share national programmes and activities to promote and protect human rights, such as the protection of the rights of women and children.
