On July 17, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province issued a decision approving the local adjustment of the 1/2,000 scale zoning plan of Buu Long tourist and residential area (Tran Bien ward) to preserve the century-old villa.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province approved the adjustment of an area of more than 2,900m2 of land from green park function to traffic land planning; adjustment of about 438m2 of traffic land planning to relic - religious land; adjustment of about 311m2 of land planning from riverside resort land planning function to relic - religious land planning function.

Approval of local adjustment of zoning plan with the purpose of "straightening" the Dong Nai riverside road through the area of Vo Ha Thanh ancient villa (also known as Ong Phu's mansion).

The 5.2km embankment and road project along the Dong Nai River (from Hoa An Bridge, Bien Hoa City to the border of Vinh Cuu District) has an investment capital of nearly 2,000 billion VND. The project started construction at the end of 2021 and is expected to be completed in mid-2023.

According to the plan, to serve the construction of the road, the ancient villa Vo Ha Thanh will be cleared about 9m, equivalent to about half of this construction within the planning scope of the project implementation.

Therefore, many experts and scientists have suggested that planning adjustments should be made to retain ancient villas to preserve and promote their cultural, historical and architectural values.

Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee then assigned the Department of Construction to review and propose plans to preserve Ong Phu's mansion.

Accordingly, the Department of Construction has proposed 4 options, including the option of "straightening" the Dong Nai riverside road section passing through the ancient villa area of Vo Ha Thanh to preserve the project.

Rare French architectural villa in Bien Hoa

The villa of Governor Vo Ha Thanh (Buu Long ward, Bien Hoa city) was built in 1922 and completed in 1924.

The ancient villa had a similar structure to the Bien Hoa Palace and was the largest private residence in Bien Hoa province at that time, with all construction materials ordered from France and transported by ship.

With a hundred years of age, the ancient villa of Governor Vo Ha Thanh has great significance in terms of culture, history and architecture.

This is also the filming location for the famous movie "The Beauty of the Western Capital" in 1996.
