VTC NewsVTC News07/01/2025

According to the announcement of the British Council and IDP, all IELTS exams in Vietnam will be converted to computer-based testing, starting from March 30.

"This change is intended to provide a faster, more efficient and more convenient test experience for candidates," the British Council and IDP said in a statement.

The two forms of IELTS on paper and on computer are similar in terms of test format, questions, and scoring methods. However, IELTS on computer offers many outstanding advantages with support features that help candidates save time and focus more on their preparation such as: receiving results within about 2 days; flexible test schedule 7 days a week with 2-3 test sessions per day; last-minute registration 1-2 days before the test date; improving maximum score with the IELTS One Skill Retake feature (which is only applicable to IELTS tests on computers).

Candidates who have registered for the paper-based IELTS test since March 30 will be contacted by the test center to inform them of alternative options, including: free conversion to computer-based IELTS; free conversion to a paper-based IELTS test date before or on March 29 or receive a full refund of the test fee.

IELTS is a popular standardized English test for non-native English speakers, testing the four skills of Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking of candidates on a 9-band scale. In Vietnam, the exam is jointly organized by the British Council and IDP.

Currently, more than 12,500 schools and organizations around the world use the results of this test for the purpose of studying abroad, settling down or applying for jobs.

According to data on the global IELTS test in 2023 - 2024 compiled at the end of September 2024, published on the IELTS homepage, the average IELTS score of Vietnamese people is 6.2/9.0 for the Academic test, ranking 29/39. Meanwhile, in 2022, our country ranked 23rd out of 40 countries participating in the ranking.
