A Quang Binh man reported hitting a toothed turtle, a wild animal listed in the Red Book, to the forest rangers.

On August 15, news from the Rescue, Conservation and Development Center of creatures under the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board, the unit has just coordinated with the Bo Trach District Forest Protection Department to receive a rare toothed turtle. This is a rare forest animal listed in the Vietnam Red Book.

Mr. Phan Van Binh (left), a farmer in Thanh Khe village, Thanh Trach commune, Bo Trach ( Quang Binh province), while working in the field, encountered a wild animal listed in the Vietnam Red Book. It was a rare toothed turtle. Mr. Binh handed over the rare wild animal, weighing 15 kg, to the forest rangers.

This rare 15kg toothed turtle was voluntarily handed over to the authorities by Mr. Phan Van Binh, a farmer in Thanh Khe village, Thanh Trach commune, Bo Trach, Quang Binh province, in accordance with the law on wildlife protection.

Mr. Phan Van Binh said that while working in the field, he bumped into a strange animal. After that, he observed that the animal was a big turtle.

Mr. Binh caught this strange turtle and believed that it was a rare turtle protected by law. After that, he proactively contacted the Forest Protection Department of Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province to hand over the turtle.

After receiving the toothed turtle that Mr. Binh brought to hand over according to the law, the Forest Protection Department of Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province handed over this rare wild animal to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Creatures for raising and rescuing.

The toothed turtle is a wild animal, an endangered, precious, rare forest animal belonging to group IIB according to the provisions of Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government on the management of endangered, precious, rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
