According to the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications, in early January 2025, Ms. L. (Thanh Hoa) received a phone call from a person claiming to be a police officer advising on the new Road Traffic Law.

It is stipulated that each citizen is given 12 points and a technical officer will call to guide the installation to integrate the 12 points into public services.

Then another phone number called to instruct Ms. L. to install the public service. Although Ms. L. suspected fraud and was cautious, the caller reassured her that if it was a scam, she would be asked to provide information, but in this case, it was just instructions on how to install the service. At the same time, the "officer" asked Ms. L. to add her as a friend on Zalo to receive detailed instructions.

Ms. L. believed and followed the instructions by entering personal information, taking pictures of the front and back of the bank card. Immediately after that, Ms. L.'s account was deducted 7.9 million VND.

It can be seen that the common trick of scammers is to directly call people, pretend to be police officers to create trust and ask people to go to the nearest police headquarters to supplement, edit, update, and complete their population data.

Fraudsters often call and make requests during office hours, working hours... so that people cannot arrange their time, refuse requests to come to the police headquarters and work, exchange information directly over the phone. From there, they easily lure people into the trap of following the scam instructions.

The Information Security Department recommends that people absolutely do not provide personal information or identification documents to anyone via phone or social networks.

Driver's license points will be automatically integrated when installing level 2 public services for driver's license holders. The police do not require people to install any services to integrate points.

Be especially careful when receiving strange calls claiming to be from government agencies. People need to check and verify their identities. People should absolutely not transfer money upon request, or download strange applications or websites of unknown origin.
