FBI to take Trump's testimony about assassination

FBI officials explained the interview with Donald Trump was to get his "perspective on what he observed" during the assassination attempt.

As is known, at a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, a young man named Thomas Matthews Crooks fired eight shots from a submachine gun, injuring the former president, killing one attendee, and injuring many others.

In a new memo on the investigation into the attack, FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek said the interview with Trump would be “a standard victim interview, just as we would do with any other crime victim in any other situation.” He added: “We want to get his perspective on what he observed.”

In an interview with FOX News on Monday, Mr. Trump said the meeting between him and the FBI will take place on Thursday (August 1).

FBI officials said they had not yet determined the motive behind the attack by the 20-year-old gunman, who was shot dead by a US Secret Service sniper shortly after the failed assassination attempt on Mr Trump.

The FBI has also not identified any co-conspirators. “We know that this subject is highly intelligent, has a college education, and has a stable job,” said Agent Rojek. “His primary social circle appears to be limited to his immediate family, as we believe he has very few friends and acquaintances.”

According to Mr. Rojek, the assassin searched online for information about power plants, mass shootings and improvised explosive devices, as well as the recent failed assassination attempt on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Last week, FBI Director Christopher Wray told US lawmakers that Thomas Matthews Crooks searched online for details about the 1963 shooting of then-US President John F. Kennedy.
