Smartphone prices are increasing, but are they really 'expensive'?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên30/03/2024

Even mid-range phones tend to be more expensive, making it harder for many people to buy a smartphone. However, as prices continue to rise, smartphones seem to have more capabilities, with powerful hardware and improved software, turning even low-cost smartphones into high-performance productivity machines. For this reason, owning a smartphone is not a choice but a necessity.

Smartphone spending is getting more expensive

This move has many wondering what a reasonable price for a smartphone is. Looking at some of the high-end models, it’s clear that they’re too expensive for many people. After all, most people use their smartphones for things like social networking, texting, emailing, banking, and consuming various types of content. None of these activities require a $1,000 device, leaving most people without a high-end smartphone.

The thing is, a $1,000 device has a different value. They can use their most expensive Galaxys and iPhones for a variety of real, money-making tasks. They can take and edit professional photos, create YouTube channels, record podcasts, research and write…

Essentially, users can use the device to learn how to use it in ways that can earn them cash. In fact, many people use their flagship smartphones to take photos for online stores and shoot videos for their business YouTube channels. For these people, using the $1,000 phones they already own feels like a bargain compared to buying a $3,000 professional camera.

However, the modern features will make many people feel the price increase is appropriate.

So the price of a smartphone doesn’t seem to be the issue. The issue lies in the mindset of many users. The latest Galaxy or iPhone feels nicer than most budget smartphones, but if the user can’t get the value out of an expensive gadget, then that’s not the issue with the gadget.
