After initial success in bringing durian trees to take root in the deep areas of Krong No commune, Thong Phong Cooperative (Krong No commune) has linked up with more than 70 farming households, expanding the durian specialized growing area to 80 hectares.
Mr. Chu Van Thong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thong Phong Cooperative, said that the Cooperative is focusing on building a growing area code, which is an important step to trace the origin of products, create trust with partners and aim for stable and sustainable output for farmers.

In parallel with production, the cooperative is implementing the project "Piloting durian production using smart technology and building a model garden associated with agricultural experience tourism " to promote digital transformation in agriculture. Smart technology applications are being piloted to monitor the care process, record production data and support product consumption through e-commerce platforms, opening up a breakthrough direction, modernizing production and increasing competitiveness for local durian.
Similarly, Cu Kuin Agricultural Production - Service Cooperative (Ea Ktur commune) has 4 durian growing area codes for official export, with a total area of 86 hectares of 67 participating households. To meet the strict technical requirements of the export market, the Cooperative has developed a strict cultivation process, and coordinated with businesses to take soil and product samples to test for chemical residues, and strictly control before the goods leave the garden. In addition, the Cooperative also applies information technology to trace the origin of each exported durian garden. Each household is given a personalized QR code, fully integrating information about the garden, area, area code, product barcode, etc. All participating growers have a detailed production diary, helping to control the transparent and synchronous care process.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dac Tien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cu Kuin Agricultural Production - Service Cooperative, the production of agricultural products for export now needs to be synchronous, methodical, and strictly adhere to standards on quality, environment, and traceability. "Building a growing area code is difficult, but maintaining the code is even more difficult. To maintain prestige with partners and the market, cooperative members need to seriously implement the commitments in the contract," Mr. Tien emphasized.
Entering the 2025 harvest season, Dak Lak has about 41,000 hectares of durian (accounting for about 22% of the country's total durian area), with an expected output of about 380,000 - 400,000 tons. To date, the province has 269 growing area codes, with a total area of nearly 7,400 hectares, accounting for about 33% of the harvested durian area. Currently, the owners of growing area codes are attaching QR codes to each durian garden to ensure that the product has a clear and transparent origin from the production stage.

For example, Krong Pac commune currently has 2,800 hectares of durian; the estimated output is 42,000 tons. Of which, 764 hectares of durian are certified by VietGAP; the area of durian that has signed a contract for production and consumption is 1,450 hectares in 37 growing areas that have been granted growing area codes for export to China. In particular, the Clean Agriculture Service Cooperative and the Green Agriculture Cooperative have applied organic farming methods on durian gardens by using fertilizers and biological products in the care and pest control process. At the same time, smart technology is applied to monitor the amount of water, nutrients in the soil and the needs of durian trees in order to promptly regulate irrigation water, supplement fertilizers and trace elements to meet the needs of durian trees to grow well and produce the best quality fruit. This has helped growing areas control quality, better meeting the technical standards of demanding markets.
According to Chairman of the Dak Lak Durian Association Le Anh Trung, in the context of the export market requiring high product traceability, the Association is focusing on supporting farmers in the sustainable durian production process. These support activities are expected to improve the durian supply chain to ensure food safety and quality. The Association has coordinated with research centers, businesses and cooperatives to collect samples to determine safe growing areas. At the same time, it has coordinated with the Plant Protection Department to develop a set of criteria for scoring traceability in a very systematic manner. This will reduce the part related to inspection and control, creating prestige for products in the export market.
