At the trial, defendant Jeong In Cheol admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. However, the defendant said that due to the pressure of debt, he lent the victim (Mr. Han Yong Duk, a Korean national) money but when he asked for it, the victim refused to pay. Mr. Han Yong Duk even threatened to hire gangsters to kill the defendant and his family, so defendant Jeong In Cheol killed him.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions were dangerous, directly infringing on the lives and property of others, so a severe sentence was required for deterrence and prevention. After consideration, the panel sentenced defendant Jeong In Cheol to death for “Murder” and 8 years in prison for “Robbery”, the combined sentence for the two crimes being the death penalty.

In 2010, Jeong In Cheol entered Vietnam. In 2018, Jeong In Cheol and his wife founded Creata VN Marketing Company, with Jeong In Cheol as director.

In March 2019, while dining at a restaurant in District 7, Jeong In Cheol met Mr. Han Yong Duk. In April 2020, the two of them contributed 1.8 billion VND each to invest in An Giang province, but the business was not successful.
