Teacher praised for cute comments to students

Many primary school teachers in China have been praised by the online community for their cute comments, accompanied by funny drawings, when grading students' homework.

Many young teachers in China are combining funny, humorous cartoon-like images (memes) with light-hearted, witty comments on their students' worksheets. They also address their students in a more intimate way, such as "child" or "dear brother".

For example, a primary school student who scored 95.5/100 in English received a comment from his teacher: "I am sending you a small flower, please always be modest with your results!". Along with it was an illustration of the teacher giving the flower to the student drawn by the teacher herself. Another student's comment, with a score of 82.5/100, included a smiley face with the message: "Keep trying."

Students who score 72.5 out of 100 are often harshly criticized by teachers. However, the teacher wrote a very kind reprimand: "This result may make you unhappy." The student responded: "I am not satisfied with my score either, but I will continue to try."

In another example, a Chinese teacher, while grading a paper, noticed that a student was having difficulty writing the word "hand." She commented on the student's paper: "The Chinese character for 'hand' has four strokes, not five. You have been making this mistake for three years. This is the last time I will comment," along with a drawing of a cartoon character wiping away tears.

This approach has received support from the Chinese online community. Many parents believe that these are positive changes for teachers. In addition to motivating students, combining fun images with personalized, gentle comments will increase the connection between teachers and students.

"Such comments are a great motivation for students. These teachers are excellent!", one user commented.

"I want to attend the classes of the above teachers," wrote another.

One excited comment shared: "I went to school too early. It's great to have a teacher like this!".

Not only teachers, stories of parents encouraging and inspiring their children to study are of interest to the Chinese online community.

A Shanghai mother has been showered with praise for her tolerance of her son after his teacher complained about his low grades. Last month, a two-minute video of the father expressing his belief that his son would have a bright future despite being the worst student in his class attracted more than 8.3 million views and 200,000 likes on social media platform Douyin.
