In an age where child safety is becoming a priority, many parents want to keep track of their children. Some even want to track their children’s location, especially when they go to unfamiliar places.

A new line of shoes from Sketchers has come up with a unique solution, each featuring a hidden compartment designed to hold an Apple AirTag tracking device.

This isn’t the first time an AirTag has been hidden in a shoe. What’s different is that this Find My Skechers line is designed specifically for kids. Each shoe has a small compartment in the heel that parents simply lift up the insole and mesh lining underneath.

A twist-top compartment then appears underneath the shoe, concealing the GPS device. Despite the secret compartment, Skechers says kids won’t feel uncomfortable wearing the shoes.

Parents can track the AirTag's location using Apple's Find My app. This hidden compartment protects the AirTag without affecting the device's wireless connectivity.

Find My Skechers come in a variety of sizes and styles. They are also machine washable, but you should be sure to remove the AirTag before putting them in the washing machine with your clothes.

There are already tools that allow you to attach an AirTag or other tracking device to a child before they leave the house, but there’s always the chance that these devices could be damaged or removed by a child.

By hiding the AirTag inside the shoe, it will be more difficult for children to access, as well as protect the device well from external factors. In addition, the product also does not attract too much attention because it does not carry any other brand name other than Sketcher, a shoe brand familiar to the general public.

However, there is much debate about the effectiveness and additional costs of attaching GPS tracking to children's belongings. In a quick survey with TechRadar, several parents said that babies and young children often grow very quickly, and very soon they will outgrow their shoes.

Each pair of Find My Sketchers costs between $52 and $58 , which is already higher than average for a pair of children’s shoes. If you have to replace them every six months, the cumulative cost can add up quickly, making many parents nervous.

Additionally, older children in the target audience may already have their own phones, which could detect location tracking directly through that device. This raises questions about the necessity of Skechers shoes with built-in location tracking.

Find My Skechers is designed for toddlers and young children. While it has received some attention from parents, its actual effectiveness remains to be seen.
