Ms. Le Thi Tuong Vy (Dong Ba ward, Hue city) said: “In recent years, Hue city has paid more attention to the exploitation of the landscape on both sides of the Huong River. I think this is a wonderful thing. People can go for a walk, exercise in the morning or watch the Huong River at night... All of this creates many interesting experiences for residents and tourists.”
In recent years, Hue Festival activities are no longer "confined" within the Hue Citadel area but have increasingly expanded in terms of space, throughout the year. Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hai Trung, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that the unit focuses on organizing community-based cultural and tourism activities at stages, parks, and relics on both banks of the Perfume River.
“The festival stages consist of two parts, IN and OFF. Currently, we mainly focus on the OFF part with open activities so that people and tourists can access the festival more frequently. The festival programs are more community-oriented. This year, all domestic and foreign art programs are brought to the community for people and tourists to access. The two community stages at 3/2 Park and the stage at Bia Quoc Hoc Park are playgrounds for international and Vietnamese music and art programs,” said Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hai Trung.
The Perfume River is considered the "backbone" of Hue city. After more than 3 years of implementing the detailed planning project, the two banks of the Perfume River have changed significantly in the direction of conservation and harmonious development of space and landscape architecture. The projects to renovate Vong Canh hill, Da Vien islet, walking routes along the southern and northern banks of the Perfume River... all follow the natural factors of the Perfume River and Ngu Mountain. The planning of Thua Thien Hue province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Government, orients sustainable development based on the foundation of cultural heritage and natural heritage.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics, said that the Huong River plays an important role as a landscape axis in the future, when Thua Thien Hue becomes a centrally-run city. “This plan very well demonstrates the role and function of Hue city. In particular, it emphasizes the main axis, the axis strategy for developing Hue as a comprehensive urban area on the foundation of heritage and the ancient capital. Shaping the future development of Hue with architecture, spatial development structure must also follow the river, mountains... Developing Hue on that foundation to design the development circuit, physical structure, spatial structure commensurate with the function, role, and scope of a centrally-run city”.
