Thanks to clues from images on Google Maps, Spanish police have solved the case of a Cuban man who went missing in the country more than a year ago.

According to BBC on December 19, images from Google Street View mode of the Google Maps application helped solve a murder case in a town in northern Spain.
According to Spanish police, Google Maps images show a man loading a white plastic bag into the trunk of a car, the moment the victim's body is suspected to be taken away.
Earlier in November 2023, police in the northern region of Castile-Leon began investigating a missing person report.
In a statement on December 18, 2024, Spanish police said that on November 12, they arrested a woman who was the lover of the missing man, along with another man who was her ex-lover in Soria province.
The two men are accused of being involved in the disappearance of the man, whose remains were found in a cemetery in Soria last week.
Investigators searched the suspects' homes and examined their vehicles. In the process, police also stumbled upon an unexpected clue.
Accordingly, the police said they discovered many images from a location application (Google Maps) showing "a vehicle that could be used in the commission of a crime".
The images were captured in the town of Tajueco, Soria province. This is also the first time in 15 years that a Google Maps image capture vehicle has visited this town.
Officials said images from Google Maps also showed the shadowy figure of a person moving a “large white bundle” on a wheelbarrow.
However, police said the images were not "decisive" in solving the case.
According to El Pais newspaper, the victim was a 33-year-old Cuban citizen who was reported missing in October 2023.
The suspects involved in the case are in custody and the investigation is continuing.
