The award honors scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the development and implementation of innovative initiatives that have a positive impact on public health, especially in low-income countries.

In 2025, the Association presented this award to Professor Tran Xuan Bach (lecturer at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) in recognition of his important contributions in the field of health innovation, including research on health economics , health systems and digital health technologies to increase access to health care services for vulnerable groups.
This young professor is also a pioneer in integrating cost-effective healthcare models to optimize healthcare systems, improve response capacity to global health challenges and prevent pandemics in developing countries.

Previously, Professor Tran Xuan Bach was also awarded the 2023 Outstanding Research Award by ISPOR, the world's largest association for health economic evaluation. Over the years, the CUGH Global Health Innovation Leadership Award has been continuously awarded to outstanding professors from leading US universities.
