HAGL has its first win, The Cong Viettel continues to struggle

Reorganizing the coaching staff is the most common way for football teams to deal with difficulties. Last weekend, HAGL Club appointed Mr. Vu Tien Thanh as Technical Director (GDKT), then gave Mr. Thanh the right to direct HAGL's professional activities in parallel with Coach Kiatisak Senamuang. Previously, The Cong Viettel Club also "put out the fire" by changing the strategist. GDKT Thomas Dooley took the coach's seat, while Coach Thach Bao Khanh was swapped to become GDKT, replacing Mr. Dooley himself. However, between the two teams making changes, only one team was able to smile.

HAGL enjoys victory for the first time in V-League 2023 - 2024

HAGL Club overcame difficulties with a 2-0 victory over Hanoi Club, in the match on the afternoon of December 27 within the framework of round 8 of V-League 2023 - 2024. Defeating the reigning runner-up team in the context of not winning in the previous 8 matches is an encouraging result, although it cannot help HAGL escape the bottom of the rankings.

In the first "double sword" match, Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh and Coach Kiatisak made their mark. HAGL entered the game boldly, taking the initiative to control the ball and attack fairly, thanks to the quick and direct rotation of the defense. Unlike the previous crisis period, HAGL's attack was less "confused", but focused on playing quickly and simply. The opening goal thanks to A Hoang's rebound, or the situation where Jhon Cley finished from the far corner to double the gap, both came from short-touch but very effective combinations.

However, the biggest highlight of HAGL Club in this match was the fighting spirit, most clearly shown in the way the home team defended the score against the pressure of Hanoi Club. The players played with determination and dedication, especially in the last 15 minutes. When goalkeeper Vu Hai was defeated, it was the other players' turn to clear the ball on the goal line. The unyielding spirit and perseverance showed that the "fire" of the mountain town team has smoldered again. If they continue to play with good spirit, HAGL can struggle out of the bottom group, when they are only 2 points behind the relegation position.

The Cong Viettel Club did not have the same joy as HAGL. Even though Thach Bao Khanh was replaced by Thomas Dooley, the runner-up of the National Cup last season still played soullessly and exhaustedly when losing 0-3 to Nam Dinh Club. In total, in the 2 matches that Mr. Dooley was in charge, The Cong Viettel team lost all, conceding 7 goals (less than the previous period) and was about to fall into the relegation group. In the previous match, Mr. Dooley said that the decline in physical strength was the problem of The Cong Viettel Club, but the mental aspect was equally serious. The players were gradually losing enthusiasm, playing disjointedly, lacking determination and prone to making personal mistakes. Having changed the "general" but not yet changed their fortunes, The Cong Viettel team really needed a 2-month break ahead to regain their spirit. Otherwise, another change of roles on the coaching bench was inevitable.

In the remaining two matches, Thanh Hoa Club easily won against host Quang Nam with a score of 2-0, while Hai Phong Club lost to Binh Dinh Club with a score of 0-1. The only goal by Leonardo Melo (Binh Dinh) at Lach Tray Stadium of Hai Phong Club helped coach Quang Huy and his team take second place from Binh Duong Club when they had the same 16 points, but had a better goal difference.
