Two passenger planes collide at New Chitose Airport

Japan's NHK reported that a collision between two passenger planes occurred at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, northern Japan, on the afternoon of January 16 (local time).

So far, there have been no reports of casualties in the incident.

The source quoted Hokkaido Airports Co., Ltd. - the airport operator, as saying that the collision occurred at 5:30 p.m. the same day, between two planes of Korean Air and Cathay Pacific.

Meanwhile, British news site mirror.co.uk said images from the scene showed the Korean Air plane was damaged.

According to local fire authorities, the incident occurred when a Cathay Pacific plane was parked on the runway when it was hit by a Korean Air plane carrying 289 people.
