The investment is part of next year's budget plan, totaling 13.54 trillion won, up 4.2 percent from this year.
According to the Korean National Police Agency, next year's budget plan includes 2.7 billion won allocated for developing deep learning technology to detect fake content, such as deepfake documents and voice cloning.
The Korean National Police Agency will also allocate a budget of 500 million won for 2025 to upgrade existing software programs to monitor deepfakes and other AI-generated videos .
By 2027, 9.1 trillion won will be invested in developing technology to prevent the rise of these types of crimes.
The 2025 budget plan also includes the creation of a 1 billion won fund to reward people who provide information on organized crimes, such as online gambling or fraud schemes.
In addition, the Korean government will invest about 5.5 billion won to upgrade the state response center for financial fraud programs on telecommunications networks, adding a new function to block phone numbers used for fraud.
In 2026, the government plans to spend 7.7 billion won on a plan to provide nearly 9,000 body-worn cameras to police to record crime scenes and collect evidence, and 7.6 billion won is allocated to enhance police equipment with more advanced combat vests, batons and stun guns.
The budget plan needs to be approved by the South Korean National Assembly .
