Thac Ba Lake was formed when the Thac Ba Hydroelectric Dam was completed in 1971. Previously, due to the impact of storm No. 3, floods and rains that caused the water level of Thac Ba Lake to rise, Yen Bai province organized the evacuation of 3,186 households with 11,279 people from 24 villages and hamlets in 4 communes and Thac Ba town to ensure the safety of the people when the Thac Ba Hydroelectric Plant discharged floodwaters.
