Citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain have visa-free access to 194 countries and territories around the world - the highest number recorded since the Henley Passport Index began tracking global travel freedoms 19 years ago.
The index was created by London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners, using proprietary data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), according to CNN.
Many Asian countries lead the ranking of powerful passports
Asian countries like Japan and Singapore have dominated the top spot for the past five years, but the top five is a triumphant resurgence of Europe. Finland and Sweden are tied with South Korea in second place – with easy access to 193 destinations – while Austria, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands are in third (with 192 destinations).
Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and the UK came in fourth place, while Greece, Malta and Switzerland were in fifth place.
Australia and New Zealand have improved their rankings and are now in sixth place, along with the Czech Republic and Poland. Meanwhile, the US and Canada are tied for seventh place, along with Hungary, with visa-free access to 188 destinations.
The United Arab Emirates remains the top gainer over the past decade, adding 106 destinations to its visa-free score since 2014 and gaining 11th place this year.
In Southeast Asia, after Singapore is the Malaysian passport - ranked 12th with 182 visa-free destinations; Brunei ranked 20th with 168 points; Thailand ranked 63rd with 82 points; Indonesia ranked 66th with 78 points; Philippines ranked 73rd with 69 points; Cambodia ranked 86th with 56 points; Vietnamese passport ranked 87th with 55 visa-free destinations, above Laos and Myanmar.
