The workshop was attended by about 40 international and domestic delegates, leading experts in archaeology, history and heritage conservation from many countries, representatives of central ministries and branches, the National Council for Cultural Heritage, the UNESCO Office in Vietnam, universities, research institutes and cultural management agencies in the country.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site (An Giang province) is one of the unique archaeological complexes with great scientific , historical and cultural value in the Southern region in particular and Vietnam in general. This complex concentrates many religious and belief architectural relics along with typical archaeological traces, reflecting the rich, vibrant life and development level of the ancient Oc Eo residents in history.
To realize the goal of building a world heritage nomination dossier, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has closely coordinated with the People's Committee of An Giang province and consulting units to carry out many research activities, supplement documents, and clearly define the boundaries, scope and outstanding values of the heritage.
The workshop is an important opportunity for domestic and foreign experts and scientists to exchange, discuss and consult on the nomination criteria and outstanding universal value (OUV) of the relic site, especially criteria II and III as recommended by UNESCO.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong believes that with the joint efforts of managers, researchers, experts and close coordination between the parties, the heritage dossier of the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site will be completed, meeting the strict requirements of UNESCO, contributing to the preservation and promotion of heritage values; actively contributing to the sustainable economic and tourism development of the locality and the country.

At the same time, he pledged to closely coordinate with professional agencies, international organizations, and scientists to build a solid and convincing scientific dossier, contributing to making Oc Eo - Ba The relic a World Heritage Site, contributing to the cultural treasure of humanity.
The workshop focused on clarifying the unique values of Oc Eo - Ba The, a bustling port urban center of the ancient Kingdom of Phu Nam; the latest research on the role of Oc Eo - Ba The in the ancient international trade network, the development of the unique Oc Eo culture with achievements in architecture, handicrafts and religious ideology.
During the discussion sessions, experts focused on determining the outstanding universal values (OUV) of the site, as this is the core element for a site to be recognized as a World Heritage Site. Along with that, they analyzed and evaluated the nomination criteria based on the guidelines for implementing the World Heritage Convention to ensure that the nomination dossier is built in the most rigorous and convincing way.
