Gaza ceasefire talks will take place in Doha, Qatar on August 15, with officials from Israel, Qatar, the United States and Egypt. Mediators are expected to consult with Hamas after the Doha talks.
According to the announcement of the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Netanyahu has approved the Israeli delegation to go to Doha on August 15 to conduct negotiations.
Earlier, on August 14, US officials expressed hope that ceasefire negotiations in Gaza would proceed as planned even though the Palestinian Hamas force would not attend this round of negotiations.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that CIA Director Bill Burns and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Brett McGurk will represent the US in the negotiations scheduled to take place today, August 15, in the capital Doha of Qatar.
White House officials also assessed the resumption of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza as an important step, while emphasizing that Washington hopes this negotiation will lead to an agreement as expected.
The parties are currently pushing for negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement, which would include the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinians held in Israel. However, disagreements over the implementation process and other key issues continue to hinder the process.
Hamas said on August 14 that it would not participate in the ceasefire talks but that mediators would consult the group after the talks.
