More than 1,100 students interact with former NASA astronauts

On the morning of June 8, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to organize the opening ceremony of Vietnam Space Week - Binh Dinh 2023. Attending the opening ceremony were leaders of Binh Dinh province and more than 1,100 students from inside and outside the province.

Mr. Lam Hai Giang, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, said that the province always pays attention to science and technology development, considering it one of the important driving forces for local socio -economic development. "Binh Dinh has been gradually forming Quy Hoa Science Urban Area to implement Resolution 20 dated November 1, 2012 of the Party Central Committee. This urban area is a new model that has never existed in Vietnam," said Mr. Giang.

More than 1,100 students attend the opening ceremony of NASA Week Vietnam-Binh Dinh 2023

"In addition, Binh Dinh also has Quy Nhon University, the South Central Coast Agricultural Science and Technology Institute and the Quy Nhon Malaria-Parasitology-Entomology Institute, which are training, scientific research and in-depth technology development units in many fields. These are important scientific and technological potentials that have contributed to the development of Binh Dinh in recent times," said Mr. Giang.

To implement the strategy for development and application of space science and technology until 2030 issued by the Prime Minister, one of the tasks set for Binh Dinh province is to connect, cooperate, and seek support from prestigious international research organizations, such as: NASA, the French and Japanese Aerospace Research Agency to organize exhibitions and scientific seminars in the fields of cosmology and space science. Thereby, spreading scientific knowledge and love of science to the public and children.

NASA Vietnam-Binh Dinh Week 2023 is an annual event to highlight NASA's achievements and contributions in space exploration, scientific research and technology development with activities organized by NASA and NASA partners.

This is the first time the program has been held in a Southeast Asian country and Binh Dinh is honored to be one of three provinces and cities in Vietnam (along with Hau Giang and Ho Chi Minh City) chosen as the venue for some events of NASA Week.

After the opening ceremony, delegates and students had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Michael A. Baker, former NASA astronaut and Dr. Josef Schmid, a surgeon and family physician at NASA, with stories about astronauts in their working and living environment in space, the universe, scientific research to protect the earth...
