More than 3,700 billion VND invested in 3 traffic projects in Vinh Long

Responding to the proposal of the National Assembly Delegation of Vinh Long province on investment in expanding National Highway 54, the Ministry of Transport said that according to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 54 is 149km long, starting at Vam Cong (Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province), and ending at Tra Vinh city.

The road has been basically invested to meet the standards of a class III road, with 2 lanes. The section through Vinh Long province alone is nearly 45km away from meeting the standards of a class IV road, with 2 lanes.

To meet the needs of convenient and safe traffic, the Ministry of Transport has directed the Vietnam Road Administration to maintain, repair and renovate some sections of National Highway 54 from the public budget. Of which, in 2022 - 2024, it will cost about 104 billion VND, and in 2025, it is expected to cost about 20 billion VND.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, the Ministry of Transport has balanced 3,752 billion VND to invest in projects in Vinh Long province such as My Thuan 2 bridge project and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge at about 1,343 billion VND; My Thuan - Can Tho expressway at about 1,947 billion VND; expanding National Highway 1, My Thuan - Can Tho section at about 462 billion VND.

Affirming the need to invest in National Highway 54 to meet transportation needs and support local socio-economic development, the Ministry of Transport said it has assigned Project Management Board 7 to prepare for investment in the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 54 through Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces.

However, due to resource difficulties, it is not possible to allocate capital to invest in Highway 54 in the period of 2021 - 2025. In the process of developing the public investment plan for the period of 2026 - 2030, based on the ability to balance resources and the principles of capital allocation according to regulations, the Ministry of Transport will consider investing in Highway 54 soon.
