On the evening of June 28, at Quy Nhon Stadium (Binh Dinh), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Dinh province coordinated with the Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Athletics Federation to organize the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Youth Athletics Championship.

The 2024 National Youth Athletics Championship will take place from June 26 to July 5, with the participation of about 1,000 coaches, athletes and officials from 62 provincial, municipal and sectoral units nationwide. Of which, 728 athletes (394 men, 334 women) will compete for 82 sets of medals in 3 age groups (born in 2007 - 2008; 2009 - 2010; 2011 - 2012).
Competition events include: running (events from 60 m - 5,000 m), high jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw, pentathlon (5 combined events)...
According to Mr. Bui Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Binh Dinh province, from 2000 to now, Vietnamese athletics has made a breakthrough, asserting its leading position in the region, gradually demonstrating its capacity in the continental arena through achievements at Asian athletics tournaments, Asiad tournaments and more importantly, the right to participate in world athletics tournaments and the Olympics.
For many years, generations of track and field athletes have contributed to Vietnam's high-performance sports in the international arena, and have been recognized as top coaches and athletes of the year.
Mr. Doan Van Phi, Permanent Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Council (blue shirt), presented flags to the delegations participating in the tournament.
"The National Youth Athletics Championship is the strongest form of propaganda and introduction to promote the athletics movement among youth, teenagers, and students, and at the same time evaluate the training of young athletes in localities. Thereby, we discover, select and nurture promising young athletes, add them to the national youth team, and prepare forces to participate in international competitions in the coming time," Mr. Hieu emphasized.
