Instructions to check if your phone is using 2G or 4G fastest

In this context, checking what type of phone you are using (2G or 4G) is very important, helping users prepare before the day 2G waves are turned off.

Currently, major network operators in Vietnam have provided direct checking services via SMS messages, helping users easily identify which type of device they have:

Vinaphone: Users just need to compose a message with the syntax 2G or TC2G and send it to 888. The system will return results about the type of phone in use and make recommendations if an upgrade is needed.

Viettel : Users can text KTDT [IMEI Number] to 191. The phone's IMEI number can be obtained by pressing *#06# on the phone's keypad. The system will check against the database and notify the device's ability to support 2G or 4G networks.

MobiFone : Users can access MobiFone's website at Mobifone Lookup, enter the IMEI number in the "Phone number/TAC" box, and click "Lookup" to receive information about the phone model they are using.

The website can check device information via IMEI.

If you do not want to use the carrier's service, users can look up phone information themselves via IMEI number on the following support websites:

Go to https://www.imei.info/, enter the IMEI number in the search box, check the "I'm not a robot" option and press "Check". Detailed information about the device will be displayed.

In the "Basic Information" section, users can check whether the phone supports HSDPA (3G) or LTE (4G) network standards. If there is a green check mark in the GSM section, it means the phone only supports 2G and the user will need to upgrade the device.

Another simple way is to check directly on the phone. Users can go to the mobile network settings and see the supported network options. If there is no 4G (or LTE) in the list of options, it is likely that the phone only supports 2G/3G.

On the market today, 4G phones with popular "brick" designs (feature phones) look very similar to phones that only support 2G, confusing users.

Some scammers have taken advantage of this to sell 2G phones disguised as 4G, causing users to suffer losses when they cannot use network services after the 2G signal is turned off.

Therefore, it is necessary to check carefully before buying a phone, especially with popular models, to ensure that the device can continue to use the mobile network after October 16, 2024.
