Israeli army chief of staff Herzi Halevi told soldiers on September 25 that the airstrikes in Lebanon were aimed at destroying Hezbollah's infrastructure and paving the way for the possibility of sending ground forces, according to CNN.

"You heard the planes flying overhead, we have been attacking all day. This is all preparation for the possibility of bringing you in and to continue to weaken Hezbollah," Halevi told soldiers in northern Israel bordering Lebanon.

The goal of Israel's operation is to help tens of thousands of people return to their homes in the north who were previously displaced by attacks from the north.

"To achieve that, we are preparing the deployment process. That means your footprints will enter enemy territory, into villages where Hezbollah has prepared large military facilities," said Mr. Halevi, confident that the opponent will face a professional, highly skilled and experienced force on the battlefield.

On the same day, US President Joe Biden admitted that a full-scale war was possible in the Middle East but there was also the possibility of settling conflicts between Israel and Hamas and Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, Iran has vowed to use all means to support its ally Hezbollah if the conflict with Israel escalates. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Middle East was on the brink of a total disaster and the world was facing dire consequences. He said Israel had crossed all red lines and Iran would "support the Lebanese people by all means". The diplomat also called on the UN Security Council to intervene to restore peace and stability.

According to The Times of Israel , the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on the situation in Lebanon.

At the meeting, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot unveiled a joint proposal with the US for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon to allow for negotiations. "We expect both sides to accept the proposal without delay, in order to protect civilians and allow diplomatic negotiations to begin," Barrot said.
