As the sun rose in Iran on the morning of October 26, two sources told CNN that Israel's retaliation against Iran "had ended after three waves of strikes." The exact targets and the extent of the damage caused by Israel were not yet known.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), confirmed that the Israeli military completed "precise and targeted" airstrikes on military targets in Iran.

"The retaliatory strike ended and the mission was accomplished. Our aircraft returned home safely," Hagari said.

Hagari said the Israeli air force targeted "missile production facilities used by Iran to fire at Israel over the past year." In addition, the Israeli military also hit Iranian surface-to-air missile systems and additional air force capabilities.

In an English-language statement, an IDF spokesman warned that if Iran "makes the mistake" of further escalation, Israel will respond.

“If Iran makes a mistake that triggers a new round of escalation, we have an obligation to respond,” Mr. Hagari stressed.

The IDF spokesman continued: "Our message is clear: All those who threaten Israel and seek to drag the region into a broader escalation will pay a heavy price. Today, we demonstrated our capability, determination and decisiveness. We are prepared both offensively and defensively to protect the country and the people of Israel."

Loud explosions were heard in the Iranian capital Tehran early on October 26, as Israel announced its response to Iran's ballistic missile attack on the country on October 1.

Israel insists it is not attacking Tehran's nuclear or oil facilities. "We only target military targets that have threatened Israel in the past or could threaten the country in the future."

There are currently no reports of damage at Iranian military bases.
