Today, May 28, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement (G/A) with the Government of Vietnam for the "Project to upgrade medical equipment at K Hospital" in Hanoi, with an aid amount of up to 1.83 billion Yen (equivalent to about 300 billion VND).
Representatives of the signatories included Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan and Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office Sugano Yuichi. The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki, Director of K Hospital Le Van Quang and representatives of relevant agencies.

In recent years, due to changes in lifestyle in the context of economic growth, the leading cause of death in Vietnam has shifted from infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases. Each year in Vietnam, the number of deaths due to non-communicable diseases accounts for 77% of total deaths, of which cancer is the second leading cause.
According to the Global Cancer Organization (GLOBOCAN) estimates, in 2022 Vietnam will have up to 180,480 new cases and 120,184 deaths from cancer.
K Hospital is the country's leading specialized facility for cancer prevention and treatment, receiving approximately 446,800 medical examinations, treating 68,600 inpatients, and performing approximately 30,700 surgeries each year.
Within the framework of this non-refundable aid project, it is expected that K Hospital will be equipped with equipment such as PET/CT system, MRI machine, CT scanner, angiography system, X-ray equipment, PACS image storage and transmission system, etc.
Upgrading medical equipment at K Hospital, Quan Su facility will contribute to meeting the increasing demand for specialized oncology examination and treatment in Vietnam.
