Information from the Lai Chau Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee said that the Standing Committee of Tam Duong and Nam Nhun District Party Committees has just disciplined a party member who violated regulations related to the bribery case of the Lai Chau Provincial Inspectorate.

Specifically, the Standing Committee of Tam Duong District Party Committee has just decided to discipline by expelling from the Party Mr. Mach Tho Quyet (Party cell secretary, head of Tam Duong district's protective forest management board) and Mr. Nguyen Van Hong (Party cell secretary, head of Nam Nhun district's protective forest management board).

The Investigation Police Agency of Lai Chau Province Police has issued a decision to prosecute and execute a temporary detention order against Mr. Quyet and Mr. Hong for bribery.

Previously, on January 17, 2023, Lai Chau Provincial Inspectorate issued a decision to inspect afforestation projects in the province in the period 2015 - 2021.

On February 20, Quyet, Hoan, Tuyen and Hanh, representing the heads of the district's Forest Protection Management Boards, agreed to contribute 560 million VND to bribe members of the inspection team in order to reduce violations.

Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Lai Chau Provincial Police has initiated a case, prosecuting 9 defendants (the heads and former heads of the protective forest management boards of 7 districts) for bribery and 7 defendants (including 5 people working at the Lai Chau Provincial Inspectorate, including Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri, former Chief Inspector of Lai Chau Province; 1 person at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment; 1 person at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) for bribery.

At the 30th session, considering the proposal of the Lai Chau Provincial Party Committee on disciplining party members who violated the law, the Central Inspection Committee found that Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri - member of the provincial Party Committee, Chief Inspector of Lai Chau province - had degraded in political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, accepted bribes, covered up for subordinates who accepted bribes, violated Party regulations and State laws on anti-corruption and negativity.

At the same time, violating regulations on what party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example, causing very serious consequences, public outrage, and negatively affecting the reputation of the Party organization and the inspection sector.

Pursuant to Party regulations, the Central Inspection Committee proposed that the Secretariat consider and discipline Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri.

In May 2023, Lai Chau Provincial Police executed decisions to prosecute the accused, issue arrest warrants, and search warrants for the residence and workplace of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri for the act of "receiving bribes".
