Masterpiece of nature in the central coastal region

Việt NamViệt Nam27/11/2024

The Central Coast has some stunningly beautiful and wild rocky reefs. They are Rang reef in Quy Nhon, Bang reef in Da Nang, Ban Than reef in Quang Nam … but the most famous and attractive when coming to Phu Yen is Da Dia reef.

Passing through the fields, peaceful coastal villages and following the path leading to the sea, Ghenh Da Dia appears overwhelmingly like a masterpiece in the middle of the deep blue sea and sky.

This is precisely the masterpiece of geological tectonic processes millions of years ago when volcanoes erupted, lava flowed into the sea and the sudden change in temperature when in contact with cold seawater formed solidified lava blocks.

Parallel is the phenomenon of pressure, so those lava blocks are cracked along vertical, horizontal, diagonal veins, creating the unique terrain at Ghenh Da Dia. With an area of about 2km2, it is estimated that there are up to 35,000 hexagonal or pentagonal stone columns arranged closely together, making many people skeptical as if there is a magical adhesive deep at the base of the columns.

Time is the clearest answer because over millions of years, these stone pillars have remained firmly together without any adhesive.

Some people compare this rocky outcrop to a giant honeycomb when viewed from a high point.

Many locals call the name of Ghenh Da Dia associated with the legendary story about the birth of this masterpiece. In the past, this area of mountains, water, clouds and sky was like a paradise, so fairies from heaven often came down to admire the scenery and recite poetry.

To serve the banquets, hundreds of thousands of gold and jade bowls and plates were brought here, but when the fairies wandered to other places, they forgot about these bowls and plates, and over time they turned into stone pillars that looked very much like neatly arranged stacks of bowls and plates. Another legend that is mentioned more often is the humane story of a wealthy merchant whose wife unfortunately died early.

Being a faithful person, he went to the Buddha's land after distributing his wealth to the people in the area. He also hid a treasure by the sea with the intention of building a temple and offering it to a wise king who had the ability to take care of the people's lives after he attained enlightenment. However, his good intention did not come true when many villains knew about the treasure by the sea and came to rob and burn it. In the end, the treasure did not go to anyone but turned into hundreds of thousands of stone pillars that will last forever with the sky and sea of Phu Yen .
