'Lazy' eating style helps girl lose 45 kg

VnExpressVnExpress19/01/2024

America The "lazy keto" diet helped Megan Faraday, 25, lose 45 kg in a year.

She made the decision to lose weight nearly two years ago, when she felt her health was seriously deteriorating.

"I was uncomfortable with my body for a long time because of my unhealthy eating habits. One morning, I woke up and thought I would try the keto diet to see if it worked and it did," Faraday shared.

The diet she follows is called “lazy keto,” a variation of regular keto. In the traditional keto diet, people reduce carbs to a minimum (30-50 grams per day, or 5% of total food intake), increase fat, and keep protein intake moderate. This causes the body to burn all its stored glucose. To get more energy, the body switches to burning fat, which helps people lose weight faster.

The traditional keto diet is somewhat harsh and difficult to follow. People will experience the “keto flu,” with symptoms such as vomiting, headaches, fatigue, and irritability.

Meanwhile, the lazy keto diet is more similar to the low carb diet, focusing more on low-carb foods. Dieters only need to limit their carb intake to less than 20g or 50g per day. Unlike the traditional keto diet, you don't need to track the amount of protein or fat you eat, nor do you need to count calories. The key foods in the lazy keto diet are meat, fish, dairy, and non-starchy vegetables.

Faraday isn't too strict about counting every macronutrient, she just focuses on limiting her daily carbs. "I figured out how to count net carbs (total carbs in a food minus grams of fiber) and went from there," she says.

She switched from eating a lot of fast food, bread, potatoes and pasta to a menu rich in fresh vegetables and lean proteins. Within a month, Faraday lost 6.8 kg. She considered this her biggest motivation and was determined to continue with the diet plan. Within a year, the woman lost 45 kg, and was able to reintroduce carbs into her regular diet.

Two years ago, Faraday had difficulty walking up stairs. Now she runs and exercises three to five times a week. Her attitude towards life has also completely changed. She is more outgoing, positive and likes to express herself more.

Faraday shares 4 tips for effective weight loss, including creating a menu that is not too harsh to make dieting simple, drinking lots of water, confiding in friends about losing weight to have support when needed, and changing yourself towards happiness.

"You lose weight for yourself, not for anyone else. There will be times when you feel like you're stuck, but you should stick with your plan," she says.
