Timely rescue of Korean tourist with ruptured cerebral aneurysm

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên03/06/2023

On the afternoon of June 3, information from Da Nang Family Hospital said that the hospital had just saved the life of Mr. CSK (47 years old, a Korean tourist staying in Da Nang ) after he suffered a ruptured cerebral aneurysm.

Thirty minutes before admission, Mr. K. suddenly had a severe headache accompanied by nausea and vomiting. After receiving the patient, the doctors performed a CT scan and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with medication, the results showed that the aneurysm had ruptured at the anterior communicating artery, leading to a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

CT scan results (left image) show subarachnoid hemorrhage. The cause is a ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm, detected by MRI results (right image).

Recognizing this as an emergency case with a very high risk of death, doctors from the Department of Emergency Resuscitation - Stroke immediately consulted and decided to perform intervention to place a metal coil to seal the aneurysm causing the brain hemorrhage.

After the successful intervention, the patient continued to receive resuscitation and medical treatment, and his health gradually improved significantly. On the afternoon of June 2, the Korean male tourist was discharged from the hospital in a conscious state, able to eat, drink, and walk normally.

Metal coil placement has been recognized as a medical advancement that can replace aneurysm neck clipping surgery, with many outstanding advantages, such as: quickly removing cerebral aneurysms, causing less pain, shortening hospital stay and minimizing the risk of complications.

According to doctors, cerebral aneurysms are one of the causes of stroke. The disease has no obvious symptoms until the aneurysm is large enough or ruptures. Subarachnoid hemorrhage is the most dangerous complication of cerebral aneurysms, with a high mortality rate (45%), which can be up to over 80% if it ruptures a second time.

Aneurysmal hemorrhage usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 65, and is especially common in smokers, drug users, people with high blood pressure, and women. In addition, people with relatives with cerebral aneurysms are also more likely to experience this condition.

Doctors recommend that in cases of risk factors for cerebral aneurysm, patients should not be subjective but need early screening to prevent dangerous complications.

In addition, if there are any signs of suspected stroke, such as: severe headache accompanied by nausea, vomiting, convulsions, impaired consciousness, you need to go to a medical facility immediately for timely diagnosis and treatment.
