The mission of local journalism

In the era of information explosion, conveying policies to the people is not only the task of administrative agencies, but also the mission of the press. Thanh Hoa has a large land area and a large population, most of which live in rural and mountainous areas. Policy communication work, if based only on documents and conferences, will hardly be able to spread widely. Therefore, local press is the main force that helps "translate" policies into familiar, easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember language.

Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio - Television have been affirming their key role in policy communication, becoming a reliable "bridge" between the Party, the State and the People. Through daily newspaper columns such as Party building, law, economy , national defense - security, culture - society, readers..., Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio - Television have promptly provided important information on new resolutions, directives and policies; at the same time, reflected the process of policy implementation at the grassroots level, helping people understand correctly, implement correctly and enhance their spirit and civic responsibility.

News bulletins on radio and television are broadcast continuously in the morning, noon and evening, integrating policy communication content, creating conditions for all important information to reach people quickly, easily understood and easily received. In addition, columns such as "Party in life", "Anti-corruption", "Science and life", "State and law", " Agriculture - rural areas", "Health" ... have effectively promoted two-way dialogue channels, received feedback from the grassroots, promptly reflected on inadequacies and conveyed them to authorities at all levels for appropriate adjustments. Many outstanding reports, news and columns on the implementation of resolutions, dissemination of new laws, and implementation of socio-economic support packages have contributed to bringing policies into life, arousing trust and consensus in the community.

In recent years, the implementation of new rural development programs, digital transformation, administrative reform or policies on health insurance, land, social security... have all had a strong mark of the provincial press agencies. Instead of just reporting on conferences, many series of articles have been built in diverse forms, from long-term reports to policy discussions..., analyzing each content more clearly, helping people not only listen but also understand and follow.

Efforts to spread beautiful values

The journey to become a policy “bridge” of Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio and Television has never been easy. In the context of fierce competition for trust in information by social networks, where fake news and false information spread at a dizzying speed, policy communication requires more sensitivity, flexibility and perseverance.

100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025):

Reporters of Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio - Television listen to the sharing from households that benefit from housing support policies.

Many veteran journalists have shared that in order to avoid misunderstandings and misinterpretations of a new policy, journalists must put themselves in the shoes of the people. The constant question before publishing an article is not only: "What does this policy say?" but more importantly, how to propagate it so that people understand and properly implement the policy? Many times, reporters have had to write and edit for many days to have a complete article that both ensures accuracy and is accessible to a wide range of readers.

Many policies are specific, have highly technical regulations, and difficult to understand language such as taxes, planning, insurance, digital transformation, etc., requiring reporters to conduct in-depth research, even attend specialized training courses to write correctly and accurately. Because writing about policies means writing about people's rights, and when it comes to rights, one wrong sentence can have a big impact. That is pressure but also the professional responsibility of the writer.

In addition, policy communication also faces many barriers from the management agencies themselves. Not all agencies are willing to provide timely and straightforward information. Some places are hesitant to speak out for fear of “revealing errors”; some places provide cumbersome and difficult-to-access information; and some even avoid the press on sensitive issues. This is a challenge that requires the press not only to be patient but also to have support from provincial leaders, departments, and branches to establish a more transparent and effective coordination mechanism in providing and processing information.

If a policy is issued as a top-down order, the press plays the role of a “bridge” to arouse consensus from the bottom up. Moreover, the provincial press does not stop at bringing policies to the people, but also delves into criticism and reflection of practical difficulties, thereby proposing adjustments and improvements to policies. Through hundreds of articles, many shortcomings have been clarified, and many policies have been adjusted promptly according to press reports.

Not only that, the strong development of digital platforms helps the voice of local journalism spread more strongly. From radio news serving remote areas, to videos, podcasts, audio newspapers... all show the dynamic adaptation of the journalism team. Each article, each news is no longer just a media product, but a seed of trust, planted from dedication to the profession and social responsibility.

As society becomes more and more complex, when trust is challenged, the press, with its role as policy communication, will be a solid “fortress” to maintain the “ideological battlefield”. And in that flow, Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio - Television will always be a sustainable, humane and courageous bridge to continue the mission of revolutionary journalism in the new era.
