Spread the spirit of "Good life, good religion"

Not only is it a familiar spiritual address for local people, in recent years, Thien Lam Pagoda (Go Ken) has also been a bright spot in volunteer work, accompanying local authorities in caring for the disadvantaged.

During the 2020-2025 period, the pagoda has accompanied the Fatherland Front at all levels and mass organizations, carrying out a series of charitable activities with a total contribution of more than 17 billion VND.

“From the Buddhist perspective, doing good deeds is not only a duty but also a way to show compassion and responsibility for life. We clearly define: religious activities must go hand in hand with social security work, to bring faith, reason for living, and hope to the unfortunate and disabled. From there, it helps reduce the burden on the locality,” shared Venerable Thich Thien Nghia - Abbot of Thien Lam Pagoda.

The specific figures not only show the scale of the contribution, but also reflect the perseverance and dedication of the pagoda in the journey of "saving suffering and giving joy": more than 10,000 gifts were given to the poor, the lonely elderly, and the visually impaired; more than 100 charity houses and solidarity houses were built for disadvantaged households; more than 150 million VND in scholarships each year to support studious Buddhist children. In particular, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the pagoda promptly supported medical equipment, masks, protective gear and contributed 350 million VND to the vaccine purchase fund.

Another bright spot is the free health care model using traditional medicine. The traditional medicine pharmacy located at the pagoda operates regularly on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, examining and dispensing medicine free of charge to about 20 people each day.

“We always keep in mind that doing charity is not to pray for blessings but to sow good karma and cultivate love. All of these actions come from the heart, from love and compassion; thoroughly implementing the motto “Buddhism – Nation – Socialism”, taking the path of humanity and morality as the foundation for all actions”, Venerable Thich Thien Nghia expressed.

Each house built, each medicine distributed, each gift given to the poor… is the result of the joint efforts of monks, nuns, Buddhists, philanthropists and the coordination of local authorities.

Venerable Thich Thien Nghia - abbot of Thien Lam pagoda awarded scholarships to students in difficult circumstances.

With the motto "Good life, good religion", Thien Lam Pagoda is also one of the pioneering religious units responding to the campaigns of the Fatherland Front Committee, from "All people unite to build new countryside, civilized urban areas" to "Day for the poor", "Join hands to eliminate temporary houses, dilapidated houses", contributing to creating the image of a religious facility accompanying the community.

From the ancient pagoda in the heart of Go Ken, the spirit of compassion, wisdom, and service continues to spread through concrete actions, contributing to building great solidarity, cultivating humane, practical, and sustainable values in society.

“Religious activities cannot be separated from social responsibility. In order for social security activities to be maintained and developed sustainably, it is necessary to have closer guidance and connection between the pagoda and the Fatherland Front and mass organizations, so that we can help the right people, at the right time and bring about the most practical results,” emphasized Venerable Thich Thien Nghia.
