Specifically, the province's sex ratio at birth will decrease from 112.9 boys/100 girls in 2016 to 111.7 boys/100 girls in 2024. It is estimated that by 2025, the province's sex ratio at birth will be controlled below 112 boys/100 girls.
Lao Cai province has implemented many activities to control gender imbalance at birth such as: Promoting communication to raise awareness and change behavior, control gender imbalance at birth; implementing incentive and support policies such as building, testing and expanding models in the community; organizing local incentive and support activities to enhance the role and position of women and girls; improving the effectiveness of implementing legal regulations on controlling gender imbalance at birth.
In addition, the province promotes international cooperation, participates in learning and sharing experiences; implements programs, projects and activities with technical and financial support from international organizations and experts...
Through this, it will gradually create a change in awareness and behavior in the community about the value of girls and gender equality, contributing to stabilizing the population structure and ensuring sustainable development. However, in the coming time, the province determines that it is necessary to continue to persevere, resolutely and flexibly implement activities to effectively control the gender imbalance at birth in ethnic minority areas.
Results of implementing the objectives of the Project to control gender imbalance at birth in Lao Cai province, phase 2 (2021 - 2025):
- 100% of Party committees, authorities, and organizations at all levels; leaders and medical staff providing fetal sex diagnosis and abortion services understand the current situation, causes and consequences of gender imbalance at birth, and legal regulations on controlling gender balance at birth.
- 100% of couples of childbearing age, young men and women are provided with and fully understand the legal regulations on controlling gender imbalance at birth and the consequences of choosing the sex of the fetus by 2022.
- 100% of party committees, authorities, and organizations at all levels include the issue of reducing gender imbalance at birth in annual socio -economic development programs and plans.
- It is estimated that by the end of 2025, the province's sex ratio at birth will be 112 boys/100 girls (meeting the set target).
