Memorial service for victims of apartment fire in Hanoi

On the morning of September 15, Bai Dinh Pagoda held a memorial service for the victims who died in the mini apartment fire on Khuong Ha Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi .

Attending the memorial service were many monks, nuns, Buddhists and local people from inside and outside the province who joined in praying for peace for the deceased victims.

In the sacred space at Tam The Temple, Bai Dinh Pagoda, the requiem ceremony was held according to traditional Buddhist rituals. Monks, nuns, Buddhists and people prayed for the salvation and safety of the victims of the fire. At the same time, they prayed for national peace and prosperity, for everyone and every family to be safe, peaceful and happy.

This is a spiritual activity to ease some of the pain and loss of the victims’ relatives, and at the same time, it is a sharing from the community to remember and express condolences to the unfortunate people. Thereby, it conveys the message of promoting the tradition of great national unity; spreading the spirit of compassion and salvation of Buddhism, multiplying the spirit of mutual love and humanity of the Vietnamese people.

Previously, at 11pm on September 12, a mini apartment building at No. 37, Lane 29/70, Khuong Ha Street, Khuong Dinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District (Hanoi) caught fire, killing 56 people and injuring 37 others. There are currently 36 victims being treated at 5 hospitals, of which 6 are in serious or critical condition. This is the fire that has caused the largest loss of life in the country in many years.

In order to share the grief and loss of families in the recent particularly serious fire, all levels, sectors, and socio- political organizations have also carried out many practical activities such as: Visiting and giving gifts to the families of the victims; directing timely treatment of the injured; donating money and supplies to support families with deceased and injured people; temporarily suspending cultural, sports, and entertainment activities and events in Hanoi...
