Unexpected benefits of exercise for people who drink alcohol

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên02/11/2024

Headaches, nausea, and a bitter taste in the mouth are common after drinking alcohol, especially if you drink a lot. A recent study in the UK found that regular exercise can help reduce these symptoms naturally.

The study was conducted by experts at Nottingham Trent University (UK). The research team monitored the health of more than 1,670 people. All were students and had at least experienced headaches and nausea due to alcohol in the last 3 months, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

Regular exercise can help reduce headaches and nausea caused by alcohol.

Participants also completed a questionnaire that included their alcohol consumption, body pH, and the frequency and severity of headaches and nausea after drinking. One group of students was asked to exercise at least 30 minutes a week.

The study found that the more alcohol a person drank, the more severe their headaches and nausea were. Meanwhile, people who regularly exercised vigorously, such as jogging, had less severe headaches and nausea after drinking than those who did not exercise. Scientists believe that exercising more may help reduce the discomfort caused by alcohol.

The first effect of exercise that needs to be mentioned is that it helps the body stimulate endorphins, a hormone that has a natural pain-relieving effect. Exercise itself helps maintain a stable level of endorphins in the body, thereby helping to reduce the feeling of headaches caused by drinking too much alcohol. Not only that, alcohol often causes difficulty sleeping. Exercise helps you sleep easily and reduces this effect.

People who exercise regularly have a better metabolism than the average person. A better metabolism means the body can process alcohol better, thereby reducing the feeling of discomfort after drinking alcohol.

Another effect of alcohol on the body is inflammation. Exercise has anti-inflammatory effects, which can help reduce some of the unpleasant physical effects associated with alcohol.

Despite the many benefits of exercise, scientists warn that it is not a cure for hangovers and headaches caused by alcohol. Regular physical activity can help reduce the severity of symptoms, but it cannot prevent them completely. The best way to avoid alcohol is to drink in moderation, or even not at all, according to Healthline .
