The incident happened in Cebu City, Philippines, on July 4. While John Mark Barrientos was on a mission to transport 4 million pesos in cash (equivalent to more than 70,000 USD), the lock of the backpack he was wearing suddenly broke, and a lot of cash flew out of the backpack while Barrientos was driving on the road.

Immediately, many people participating in traffic stopped their vehicles to pick up the bills flying all over the road. Video clips recording this incident have attracted a lot of attention on Philippine social networks in recent days. Mr. Barrientos said he only realized the problem when it was too late.

The plea of the man who made $70,000 fly off the road is thought-provoking (Video: Daily Mail).

"When I looked in the rearview mirror and saw the money flying out of my backpack, I stopped to pick it up, but there were many other people picking up the money. I hope they will return it to me. I am just a hired worker, I don't have the money to pay for the damage I caused," Barrientos told a local news outlet.

When the bills started flying on the street, traffic on the street immediately... stopped, many people ran into the street to pick up the money. Some people gave it to Barrientos, but many people kept the money for themselves. After counting the collected money, Mr. Barrientos said that there were still about 2 million pesos "lost".

The representative of the Mambaling police force - Mr. Jonas Recaplaza - spoke up to ask those who took to the streets to pick up the money but did not return it to Mr. Barrientos to quickly return the money to the police station. Currently, the police have begun an investigation to find out the identity of those who "looted".

Currently, some people have come to Mambaling Police Station - the unit that received the case - to return the money they found. The police confirmed that for those who picked up the money but did not return it, if the investigation finds their identities, these people will face legal punishment.

Police said there was information in videos recorded at the scene that helped them identify the people who stopped their cars and went down to the street to pick up the money.
