Internet connection from Vietnam to international countries currently goes through 5 international submarine optical cable lines with a total capacity of more than 20 Tbps, total available capacity of 34 Tbps including: AAG (Asia America Gateway), APG (Asia Pacific Gateway), SMW3 (SEA-ME-WE3), IA (Intra Asia) and AAE-1 (Asia- Africa- Euro 1).
In 2024, 3 out of 5 submarine cable lines that Vietnamese network operators are exploiting encountered problems, causing disruptions in services at sea. Specifically:
The APG cable line has problems on branches S1.9, S3, S8 and S9; the AAE-1 line has problems on branches S1H3 and S1H5 and the IA line has problems with branches S1 and S5.
When fiber optic cables have problems, network operators have plans to transfer capacity to other cable directions to ensure service quality for customers.
It is expected that the Internet from Vietnam to international will be fully restored in October because the IA cable line has been restored since the end of September and recently the APG submarine cable line has also fixed the problem. However, the AAE-1 cable line has postponed the time to fix the power leakage error that occurred on the S1H5 branch to November. Therefore, network operators must wait another month for the Internet connection capacity from Vietnam to international to be restored to 100%.
Currently, Vietnamese network operators are investing in and exploiting 5 international submarine optical cable lines with a total capacity of 34Tbps. In the near future, 2 more optical cable lines SJC2 and ADC will be put into operation.
