Iran's state news agency IRNA reported on June 1 that the country's Foreign Ministry had summoned Sweden's acting charge d'affaires earlier in the day due to Stockholm's "baseless and biased" accusations against Tehran.

According to IRNA , during a meeting with the Swedish acting charge d'affaires, the Iranian Foreign Ministry conveyed Tehran's protest message against controversial statements by a Swedish official in Stockholm.

According to the ministry, these statements are "based on false information and influenced by Israel".

Earlier, on May 27, the head of the counterintelligence department of the Swedish Security Service, Mr. Daniel Stenling, accused the Iranian government of "using criminal networks in Sweden" to harm the interests of Israel and Jews in this Scandinavian country.

Press TV quoted Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Western Europe as saying at the meeting: "The spread of such baseless information shows that some parties intend to damage relations between the two countries. Iran expects Sweden to be more vigilant than ever against suspicious developments."

The Swedish Charge d'Affaires said he would immediately convey the message from Iran to the relevant agencies of that country.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have increased sharply since fighting broke out in Gaza on October 7, 2023.

In April this year, Iran launched 350 drones and missiles at Israel, most of which were intercepted, in response to an attack that Tehran blamed on Israel.
