According to Gadget Tendency , more than a month ago, Microsoft blocked the activation of Windows 10 and 11 using Windows 7 and 8 keys. After the blocking decision, users started to experience problems where the operating system that had been activated in this way could be disabled under certain conditions.
Microsoft promises to find a solution for users
The report said that if a user has Windows 10/11 activated through the free upgrade program from the previous Windows 7 and 8, the system may stop working if the user replaces some hardware components or even updates to the BIOS version.
One user even filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission, saying: "The automatic activation didn't work, so I contacted support. They told me that because my Windows 10 license was upgraded from Windows 7, and they stopped supporting Windows 7 keys, the company couldn't renew my Windows 10 Pro license after the hardware replacement. They also admitted that the hardware change doesn't violate the Windows license, so there's no reason to revoke or change my Windows 10 license in any way."
Given what’s happening, it’s likely that there will be more similar complaints. In response to the issue, Windows product manager Bill Babonas said the company is aware of the customer reports and is investigating the issue. Babonas also said that if users are having technical difficulties, they can contact the company’s support department.
