VnExpressVnExpress17/04/2024

Hanoi National University plans to recruit more than 150 high school students, starting from grade 10 at the earliest, to study university credits in advance, more than three times the current number.

The information was presented at the workshop on the Talent Incubation Program, high school level (VNU 12+) of Hanoi National University, on the afternoon of April 17. The goal of the program is to attract excellent students, creating a source for the field of basic science .

Students will receive early career and scientific research guidance, shortening the time to obtain a university degree.

Director of Hanoi National University Le Quan said that initially, the program will recruit about 10% of students from affiliated high schools (150-160 students), through selection or selection combined with interviews. Each year, students will study about 5-10 credits. When accumulating at least 3 credits, students will be given priority for admission to schools under Hanoi National University.

To participate, students need to meet one of the following conditions: be a member of the national or international excellent student team; win a prize in the high school Olympic exam, have good academic results in grade 10 (for specialized students) or grade 10 and semester I of grade 11 (for non-specialized students).

In addition, students need to achieve foreign language proficiency from level 2 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam (level A2).

In fact, 6 years ago, Hanoi National University implemented a similar pre-credit program. To date, nearly 50 students from the specialized schools of Social Sciences and Humanities and Natural Sciences have registered to study, all in Hanoi.

Ho Chi Minh City National University also announced late last year that it would pilot a program to select outstanding high school students nationwide to study some university credits in advance. Students will study through the MOOC online lecture system of member schools, then take a direct exam to have their credits recognized.

Educators believe that this way, families and society will reduce the time and effort invested in outstanding individuals. Students will also be oriented to their careers early, avoiding choosing the wrong major or profession when entering university.

Around the world , many universities have similar models. For example, at Tsinghua University, China, exceptional talents can study from the age of 13, 14, graduate from university at 16-18, and graduate with a doctorate at 20.

In the US, the AP (Advanced Placement) program is very popular. Students can choose to study some basic university courses in advance while in high school.
