Rain across the country, many places have heavy rain for a long time

On July 13, the Vrain automatic rain gauge system recorded rain in many regions across the country, in which the Northern region continued to have heavy to very heavy rain, while the Central and Southern regions had moderate rain, with some places having heavy rain.

In the North, many localities recorded rainfall of over 50mm such as: Phu Tho (98.4mm), Thanh Hoa (92.2mm), Son La (67.8mm), Quang Ninh (67.2mm), Lao Cai (61.4mm) along with Bac Ninh , Hung Yen, Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang. Heavy rain on steep terrain is increasing the risk of landslides and flooding in mountainous areas.

In the Central region, heavy rain occurred locally in Khanh Hoa (69.8mm), Da Nang (61.6mm), Quang Tri (59.8mm), Quang Ngai and Gia Lai. This is an unusual development during the hot season in this region, due to the influence of high-altitude wind convergence.

The Southern region also continues to have widespread rain. Some places have moderate rain such as An Giang (53.8mm), Dong Nai (50.4mm), Ho Chi Minh City (33.6mm) and many places have moderate rain in Can Tho, Ca Mau, Dak Lak, Lam Dong. Meanwhile, the southwestern provinces such as Vinh Long, Dong Thap have light rain.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, its meteorological stations also recorded heavy rain in many areas in the North, North Central, Central Highlands and South. As of 3 p.m. on July 13, the rainfall in Lang Cheu 2 (Son La) was 67.8mm, Ho Khe Tien (Thanh Hoa) was 36.2mm, Po Ko (Quang Ngai) was 44.4mm and Phu Thanh (An Giang) was 38.4mm.

According to meteorological experts, in the evening and night of July 13, showers and thunderstorms will continue to occur in the North, with some places experiencing heavy rain of over 50mm. The area from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, the Central Highlands and the South is also likely to experience showers and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 10-30mm, and some places may exceed 60mm.

The cause of rain in the North is the influence of low pressure trough combined with high-altitude wind convergence zone (5,000m). The Central region, especially from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh and the Central Highlands, is affected by the spreading low pressure trough system, causing localized rain in the evening. Meanwhile, the South has rain due to the stable operation of the Southwest monsoon combined with wind convergence over the East Sea, forming scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially in the evening.
