US suddenly stops sharing intelligence with Ukraine

CIA Director John Ratcliffe said the US has cut off intelligence sharing with Ukraine, in a move that observers believe is aimed at pressuring Kyiv to come to the negotiating table.

Reuters on March 5 quoted CIA Director John Ratcliffe as saying that the US has cut off intelligence sharing with Ukraine, a move that could seriously affect the country's military's ability to target Russian forces.

The decision to stop sharing intelligence and military aid with Ukraine shows the Trump administration's willingness to be tough in forcing an ally to the negotiating table.

President Trump said on March 4 that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which the Ukrainian leader expressed his desire to sit down at the negotiating table on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“I think on the military front and the intelligence front, the pause (that forced the Ukrainian president to respond) will end,” Mr. Ratcliffe told Fox Business.

Sources familiar with the situation also confirmed that US intelligence sharing with Ukraine has been halted. One of the sources said intelligence sharing has been reduced “partially,” but could not provide further details.

Since fighting broke out in 2022, the US has provided Ukraine with vital intelligence, including information its military needs for targeting.

US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said on March 5 that the US "has taken a step back" and the administration is "reviewing every aspect" of its intelligence relationship with Ukraine.

In addition, he said the US is actively pushing for progress on the US-Ukraine mineral deal and a potential peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. "I think we'll see progress on that soon," Waltz said.
